Eyes, Tendons, and Irritability in Spring

The sunshine and warmer weather this week inspired me to go outside and clip a few forsythia branches and bring them inside. I placed them in water and in a couple weeks I’ll have vibrant blooms. It’s a little joy of early spring. With the increasing instability in the world, I think these small gestures can go a long way toward guarding our humanity and sanity.

What about you? What practices are you implementing to harmonize and maintain balance? With the yang qi starting to come up (hello shift in light!) there’s a new kind of movement becoming available to us. But like the little buds on my forsythia branches, the qi is still vulnerable. Take it slow.

Spring is the season of the wood element and is associated with our eyes and our tendons. Vision, both metaphorical and physical, and articulated movement, the ability to go in the direction of our vision, activate more now. It’s quite common to see eye strain and tendon injuries that result from trying to do too much too soon. Frustration, anger, and irritability can also come up, all signs of the wood qi out of balance.

So ease into it… and if you need help making the transition into the next season, let’s get you on the schedule.
